                                         Snow day!

It was amazing to me that my husband was able to get to the hospital this morning despite 12 plus inches
of new fallen snow during the night.  After a hearty breakfast and enjoying watching our children shoveling the walks and making snow people in the yard he tackled our snow packed lane.  He's quite the guy!
What I like about a snow day is the extra time I have been given.  It's a gift.  We've decided to have school in session later today when the weather turns colder and blowy so that the kids can enjoy the beauty outside now.
So I picked up a book I've read before but have been meaning to read again....and I read the whole thing!
What a refreshing journey!
The book is, The Search for Balance; Keeping first things first ~by Jill Briscoe.  With the many pulls on my attention during the month of December it is wonderful to soak in words that direct my heart at what is truly important.

Here are some things I want to remember~

"I've come to the conclusion that it means I put love for God before all my other loves.  The priority principle is:  first the King and Kingdom things.  First the King's business.  We must "seek first his kingdom and his righteousness"' (Mat. 6:33)  What that means is whatever the King says is first today must be first today.  Maybe the things that are first today may not be tomorrow or the next day, but all I have to worry about is today.  His priorities must be my priorities."

(see the bowing pine in the background?)

"Some practical ways of refueling besides the obvious devotional and worship time, are as follows-

1.  Pour out your heart - your feelings thoughts or concerns in a journal that's written to God.

2.  Follow Jesus' example and once in a while get away from  the crowds and go off  by yourself.  The time alone affords you the opportunity to reflect and listen.  "Be still and know that I am God."  (Psalm 46:10)

3.  Spend some time with some replenishing friends or family.. People who will listen to you and pray for you as well as doing fun playful activities with you.

4.  Le your needs be known to your family.

5.  Look for uplifting ways to glorify God.  Use your creative talents."

I am so happy to have these reminders before me and I hope they bless you too as, together,  we remember and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, our Savior.  May peace reign in our hearts.

                    "Count your blessings, name them one by one;
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done."

We thank Thee Lord for Christian fellowship and music, for precious friendships, for laughter and joy,
for cars that bring us distances and for roads easy to travel,
for hands that prepare treats to eat, for beautiful dresses and godly young ladies,
for young men seeking to emulate
Your character, for parents who daily admonish their children in Your ways,
for Your Spirit that moves among us and stirs our hearts to love,
for memories that endure and encourage.
